ODU Americas is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The descendants of Oro Community on the North American continent, being aware of our responsibility to our native land, ourselves, and our cultural heritage are determined to contribute towards her social, economic, educational, technological, and political development. To this end, ODU Americas (ODU) conducts projects including Solar Lights, Infrastructure Rehabilitation, and Scholarships. Many hours of educational time are lost to the power outages in Nigeria. The lack of light also creates increased security risk for the many students travelling several miles to attend school. The Solar Lights project provides solar powered lights to children and teachers to allow them to study and teach during power outages.
Our Infrastructure Rehabilitation projects focus on renovating buildings and roads related to the educational and economic activity of Oro- Ago. Through this initiative, we funded the repair of major bridges and roads connecting the area to local markets, repaired school buildings, and the construction of multipurpose center. Our current projects include forming a sanitation committee to provide environmentally friendly and sustainable toilets and hygiene products. Future projects include providing medical supplies to local clinics to prevent and detect chronic diseases.
Another major pillar of our organization is scholarships. Finances are a leading cause of students not matriculating through school. ODU raises funds to provide scholarships and alleviate the financial burden students face to continue their education. Therefore, ODU shall exist as a network of Oro people in North America and Nigeria embracing social progression, cultural emphasis, and humanitarian empathy through strategic and sustainable programming.
